Summary: This method decrypts DVD to VOB files using DVD Decrypter, extracts the AC3 audio from the VOB files using DVD2AVIdg, splits the audio into 6 WAV files using BeSweet, creates an AviSynth script file to access the DVD2AVI project, and uses that script as Video source and multiple WAV files as the audio source in Windows Media Encoder.

Summary: This method is an attempt to convert VOB files to WMV directly to 2-pass VBR without going through other indirect approaches. Still under undergoing testing. Still under develoment.

AviSynth and DirectShow Filters

Note: DVD to WMV9 with WMA9 Professional 5.1 using AviSynth method does not require the AC3 filter. Since 6 Wave files are used as the audio source, those Wav files are filters through the Windows default Wave Parser. Its performance also does not affect by other MPEG decoders since the *.avs file is almost always rendered by Windows Default direct show filter.

Best practices

Keep away from Codec Packs

For DivX files playback, use DivX Codec from www.divx.com (it will also play XviD but not 3ivX)

If XviD is not played for some reason then

Uninstall DivX Networks DivX Codec

Install Koepi’s XviD MPEG4 Video Codec

Install DivX Codec

If you also really need 3ivX then

You can uninstall DivX Networks DivX Codec

You can uninstall Koepi’s XviD MPEG4 Video Codec

Install 3ivX D4 from www.3ivx.com

End If

Install WinDVD for VOB/MPEG2 playback (WME seems to like WinDVD decoders better for some reason)
Install Windows Media Encoder finally
